Writing Reviews

Registered members are invited to submit reviews and critiques of homeschool materials they have used. Contributors should focus on providing the sort of specific and objective information which they would themselves hope to read when seeking guidance on the Website.

- If you are connected to a certain curriculum product, or have any vested interest in it, you may not review that product or competitive products.
- Please try to be objective about your experience and, if appropriate, note both positive and negative aspects in your comments.
- Don’t be afraid to offer personal opinions in your review commentary, but consider the Community Forums we offer as a more appropriate place to expand on general ideas and philosophy. Use Reviews to provide more specific descriptions and critiques of the materials.

Your review should contain an overview of your experiences using the product. Be sure to answer some or all of the following:

  • What did you like about the product?
  • What did you dislike about the product?
  • What grade level, volume, or version of the product did you use?
  • How well did the product work for your child(ren)?
  • How much planning and preparation was required for the parent?
  • Did the product provide a thorough education for your child or did you need to supplement with other materials?
  • How does the product compare to similar products you may have used?
  • Did your child find the material engaging?
  • How well did the product suit your child's age, learning style, special needs and interests, or academic strengths and weaknesses?
  • Did you feel you received good value for the money relative to other similar products you have used or considered using?
  • Try to offer a brief explanation for the basis of the numerical ratings you assign to the product.
  • Assign keyword tags to your review that will help other users know about special aspects of the product you mention in your review, such as suitability for special learning needs or interests, comparisons to other products, or other notable features and benefits. You can see tags that other members use for this purpose on our List of Tags Page.

Participating in Community Forums

The forums are our virtual community, the electronic town square in which homeschooling parents and students may meet up and compare notes on which products--or certain aspects of them--have worked well for our members, and which ones don't. In commenting on others' submissions, please treat others as you would wish to be treated. Communicate in clear, polite language and with a community spirit.

Community Forum Rules: - If you are connected to a certain curriculum product, or have any vested interest in it, you may not review or comment on that product or competitive products. Avoid conflicts of interest and do not review or discuss products where you cannot be neutral.
- Be respectful of others' opinions. Differences of opinion are encouraged; insults and bullying are forbidden and may result in our deleting them
- Any posts, user names, or subject lines containing profanity, sexually graphic, or offensive language will be deleted. (This includes any uses of characters such as @#$% to replace letters.)
- We will not tolerate racist, abusive, hateful, violent, or obscene language on any of our community forums. Insulting and defamatory language and personal attacks are not permitted and comments containing these violations will be deleted.
- Threats, harassment, verbal assaults, and online stalking will not be tolerated. Posts that might be construed as such will be deleted and may be made available to the proper authorities.
- Do not impersonate any person or entity; falsely state or otherwise misrepresent your affiliation with any person or entity; intentionally omit, delete, forge, or misrepresent transmission information, including headers, return mailing, and Internet protocol addresses; or otherwise disguise the origin of any content that you submit or transmit through our Website.
- Suggesting or encouraging any illegal activity is cause for immediate deletion and suspension of posting privileges.
- If you reference articles, news reports, or other proprietary material, use very limited excerpts and always credit the original source of the information.
- Don't spam or post chain letters, pyramid schemes, junk mail, or any unsolicited or unauthorized promotional material.
- Don’t interfere with, disrupt, or harm in any way the Site or servers or networks connected to the Web Site;
- The Community Forum is meant for discussions, not for commercial solicitation, instant messaging, or advertising purposes, whether they are homeschooling-related or not. Posts of that nature may be deleted.
- PLEASE USE PROPER PRECAUTIONS
- Always remember that any personal information you reveal can be obtained and used by others. Anything you post on our Community Forums, you post at your own risk.
-- Do not provide anyone with any information that you don't want made public. Be especially careful about any information you chose to publish about your children. You may want to refer to them by a nickname or alias. Never reveal your children's first and last name, their address or any other information that could be abused by another individual.
-- Do not post any personally identifiable information of other members.

If you feel that a post in our Community Forum section, a private message, a product review, or any other user-posted content violates our Community Forum Rules, above, or any of the terms stated within this document, please Contact Us.
